Dating

After spending yet another weekend sitting in my flat and doing nothing, I realized I have become the most boring person in the world.

Things could be different if I had a girlfriend. Finally convinced myself to start dating only to push a good chance with the back of my hand. I guess I'm just rusty in the "lovey-dovey" way or just dating in general. I didn't use to be like this. I feel miserable.

This is my first post in a long time. I wouldn't want it to be on such a mundane topic but that's exactly how I feel.

A Dangerous Book

People who are interested in Turkey might know that something unusual is going on with the country. Many journalists have been arrested for being members of a gladio organisation. However, all those people had one thing in common. Investigating the Gulen movement and writing books, articles about it.

The most bizarre thing was about a book called "İmamın Ordusu" (The Imam's Army) which talks about Gulen movement and its establishment within the Turkish Police. The publisher's office was raided and all the pdf copies of the book were erased by the police. The author, Ahmet Şık, is already in prison and any third party who might be in possession of the book was warned since they would be arrested.

So, why do you think the police is in such haste? What might be so dangerous about this book that the police is trying to stop it from being published? You know the answer.

Nationalism and Turkish Rap

I was listening to one of the Turkish Rap albums that I used to like back at high school. After almost 10 years, the lyrics seems unnatural and very racist to me. I thought to myself "Why do these guys react on stuff like the visits of foreign stars to Turkey?".

It's just like a psychologist trying to solve problems in the patient's childhood. The first Turkish rap albums started coming from the Turkish minority in Germany and most of the songs were about their isolation from the society and the neo-nazi attacks at the time (Solingen attacks, etc.) Karakan's Defol Dazlak (Eng. Fuck off Skinhead!), King Size Terror's Bir Yabancının Hayatı ( The life of a stranger)and Cartel's Türksün (You're Turkish!).

This can be understood to a certain degree but the way it shaped the Istanbul-based Turkish rap resulted in songs about the Ottomans and xenophobia.

Nothing has changed and whenever I hear some Turkish rap song, it still has those ridiculous references to past events and wars and hatred towards Greeks. German-Turks had a point in being highly nationalist. What the fuck is going on with the ones in Turkey?
